About the Event
The terms “management” and “leadership” are often used interchangeably, however, while there is a bit of overlap between them, these are quite distinct roles that tend to be rooted in different mindsets, i.e., process-focused vs people-focused, respectively. Those with a process-focused mindset tend to focus on the processes of how work and tasks are performed; they direct the work of team members and are responsible for the outcomes and deliverables. Those with a more people-focused mindset tend to inspire their teams to take initiative and challenge themselves; they communicate vision, determine strategy, and motivate and support team members on their developmental paths. Both sets of roles and mindsets are important in an organization and when both can complement each other - i.e., where there is a mutual understanding and appreciation of the differences in thinking styles, actions, and behaviors - growth and success are possible.
In this webinar, Jessica McLean will lead us through exploring the differences in leadership vs. management mindsets and behaviors; we’ll dive deep into the various characters depicted in Building a Leadership Habitat, by VPG founder Ashley Cheung, and discuss how they demonstrate either management or leadership qualities and how the characters learn from each other to promote teamwork. Finally, for those looking to cultivate their own leadership mindsets, Jessica will share some tips and tricks that you will be able to implement right away to help shift you into a more people-focused mindset and orientation.
