Introduction to Intellectual Property

This two-hour presentation provides an introduction to intellectual property law, the area of law that protects the results of human creative endeavor. The seminar will discuss each of the four fields that make up intellectual property law:

• Trademarks

• Copyrights

• Patents

• Trade Secrets

  
  

The seminar will provide a brief overview of each field of intellectual property, discuss how rights are acquired, what may be protected, the role of agencies such as the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the U.S. Copyright Office, the process of registering trademarks and copyrights and applying for patents, and maintaining rights in intellectual property.
