About the Event
Virtual Patent Gateway (VPG) is excited to host Khue V. Hoang, Philip Eklem, and Connor Houghton, elite practitioners from Reichman Jorgensen Lehman & Feldberg, as they engage in a lively educational conversation about the International Trade Commission (ITC) and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, two popular forums for patent litigation. Although these areas have different scopes for proceedings and offer different remedies, patent disputes are often fought on both fronts, creating complex litigation scenarios.
Hoang, Eklem, and Houghton will provide a brief overview of proceedings at the ITC and the PTAB, discuss practice points, and dive into current events related to litigating patents in both forums.
Khue V. Hoang is the co-managing partner of RJLF’s New York office and has over 20 years of experience in high-stakes patent infringement and licensing disputes. She represents a broad range of sectors, including telecommunications, data storage, consumer electronics, and medical devices in disputes before district courts nationwide, the ITC, and the PTAB. Hoang is a member of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and ChIPS, a national nonprofit organization that advances and connects women in technology, law, and policy.
Philip Eklem is an associate in RJLF’s Washington, D.C. office and specializes in patent litigation in U.S. district courts, the U.S. International Trade Commission, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. His experience includes all phases of patent litigation, including pre-suit, fact and expert discovery, and pre- and post-trial phases. Eklem practice covers a broad technology spectrum, including mechanical and electrical systems, consumer electronics, medical devices, aeronautics, automotive systems, web tech, and cloud computing.
Connor Houghton is an associate in RJLF’s Washington, D.C. office and focuses on intellectual property litigation in a wide variety of technologies and has participated in cases before federal district and appellate courts, the International Trade Commission, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He specializes in cases before the ITC, where he has experience coordinating fact discovery, drafting motions, working with expert witnesses, conducting and defending fact and expert depositions, and participating in hearings. Houghton has managed filing and defending inter partes review proceedings before the Patent Office.
