The Most Valuable Section You're Ignoring

You've spent time perfecting your headline, updating your profile photo, and writing an engaging About section. But if you're like most LinkedIn users, you're overlooking one of the platform's most valuable pieces of real estate: the Featured section. Positioned near the top of your profile, it allows you to curate the work you're most proud of rather than relying on visitors to dig through your activity feed.
According to LinkedIn, the Featured section is designed to showcase your best work, including posts, articles, documents, videos, external links, and other media that represent your professional identity. Yet many professionals either leave it empty or never update it.
Think of the Featured section as your professional portfolio. This is where you can highlight the content that supports the story your profile is telling. Published an article? Feature it. Appeared on a podcast? Add the episode. Spoke at a conference? Include the presentation or event recap. Created a case study that demonstrates measurable results? Pin it. Whether you're building a personal brand, attracting clients, or establishing thought leadership, these examples provide something far more powerful than simply saying you're experienced; they prove it.
Valerie Morris of Social Media Examiner notes that the Featured section gives your best content a second life by keeping it visible long after it disappears from your feed. Instead of hoping someone scrolls through months of posts, you're placing your strongest work exactly where profile visitors are most likely to see it.
The takeaway is simple: don't let your best work get buried. Your Featured section should answer the question, "What do I want someone to remember about me?" Curate it intentionally, review it regularly, and let it reinforce the expertise your profile claims. After all, a great profile doesn't just tell people what you do, it gives them proof.
