by Shenique Reid, Communications Specialist / Litigation Assistant at VPG
My name is Shenique. I was born in Montego Bay Jamaica, migrated to Washington, D.C., in 2002, and grew up as a native Washingtonian. I am a first-generation college graduate with a passion for helping others. Growing up in an immigrant family, I became an independent thinker, with education instilled in me as the foundation for achieving a prosperous life. As a young woman, I discovered a passion for helping those in often-overlooked populations, particularly the elderly. Early in my education, I pursued healthcare, believing it was the best way to care for and assist others. This led me to earn both a bachelor's and a master's degree in healthcare. However, I soon realized I was better suited to helping others through advocacy and legal representation. During my undergraduate years, I advocated and volunteered at immigration non-profit agencies, representing my peers, family members, and clients. It was then that I accepted my calling and decided to pursue a career in the legal field.
My friends and colleagues often refer to me as a people person. I am a social butterfly who finds joy in helping others in whatever way I can. I also enjoy spending time with family and friends, decorating my home, exercising, volunteering at non-profit organizations and clinics, tutoring children with reading challenges, and traveling. If I were to choose an animal to represent me, it would be a cheetah. Like a cheetah, I am quick, efficient, focused, and determined. When given a task, you can count on me to complete it in a timely manner with precision. I am incredibly determined, and when faced with challenges, I find that it’s always beneficial to work a little harder or smarter to overcome them. I am proud to have these qualities embedded in me.
I am excited about becoming a new member at VPG and look forward to being part of a team that shares a common goal. I am eager to contribute helpful insights to my new teammates and learn from our Founder, Ashley.
